The mission of the State Historical Society of North Dakota is to identify, preserve, interpret, and promote the heritage of North Dakota (ND) and its people. The State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation exists to support the mission and activities of the Society by securing private funding used to assist the Society in meeting its goals and needs. Fundraising strategies include memberships, memorials, donations, sponsorships, major gifts, and legacy giving.

The motto of the Society is ‘History for Everyone’. While not all of us are eager to become a historian, we are all fascinated when we hear a good story from the past. In fact, in 2022, all 59 state historical sites combined in North Dakota had 834,994 visitors. The demand for history ‘done right’ is there and the Foundation has a major role in assisting the Society in making history interesting and accessible for everyone.
