Formed in 1980 with only two employees, we’ve grown into one of the largest privately-owned oil and gas servicing companies in the United States.

Butch’s Rat Hole Service, Inc. was formed in 1980 in Levelland, Texas by L.D. (Butch) Bryant. With a single rat hole truck servicing three drilling companies, that was a time when oil was around $35 a barrel. The timing of our initial operations proved to be worthwhile throughout the “oil boom” of the 80s. It was during this time that our business grew rapidly along with our reputation.

To supplement the rat hole drilling business, Butch’s expanded into the oil production arena with an anchor setting and testing company in 1982. From then on, our company would be officially known as Butch’s Rat Hole & Anchor Service, Inc. The years following this merger provided successful business ventures along with the ability to acquire additional equipment and people. It was at this time that our first yard was built at 101 Alamo Road in Levelland. Our original location has served as the company hub for many years and is still fully operational.

Additionally in 2011, a yard was formed in Dickinson, ND to provide rat hole drilling and cementing services to the Bakken / Williston Basin. During that same year, a yard in Barstow, TX was opened for pipe and cement storage and loading. We also formed Butch’s Trucking, Inc. and acquired Permian Equipment Rentals, LLC during this time.

As operations continued to grow in South Texas, we knew it was necessary to have a sustainable presence in that area. In 2012, a yard was opened in Cotulla and Kenedy, TX offering services to the Eagle Ford Shale. Accompanying our expansion into South Texas is our development of an office in Hardtner, Kansas which services the Mississippi limestone formation commonly referred to as the Mississippi Play.

The same company that began with only two employees in 1980 now has over 1000 employees servicing a customer base across the United States. While our history may be young, it provides a solid foundation for the Butch’s family of companies to leave a mark on the industry.
